This is one of the aspects of Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC), an approach developed by Dr. Pamela Douglas, an Australian doctor and researcher specializing in breastfeeding and sleep support (Milk and Moon website). I trained with Dr. Douglas and am an NDC practitioner. This specific approach works very well to prevent breast-feeding pain: cracks, vasospasm, ineffective suckling, recurrent blocked ducts or recurrent mastitis.
